Architectures of Separation & Violence

A talk about how intentions and policies of separation and violence get translated through design strategies and architectural imaginaries in Palestine, drawing on comparisons with apartheid in South Africa, reterritorialisation in Lebanon, risk-inhabiting the Mediterranean, and walling-off at the US-Mexico Border. The talk is presented by Dr Fadi Shayya and organised by UoS Friends of Palestine. An interactive discussion will follow the talk

Bio: Dr Shayya is a transdisciplinary scholar and consultant based as a Lecturer in Architecture & Urbanism at the University of Salford. He uses the tools of architecture, urbanism, ethnography, and networks to theorise and speculate about sociotechnical and eco-infrastructural cosmologies. He consulted for Dar Al-Handasah, the United Nations ESCWA, and Visualizing Palestine, among others. He is a member of Architects for Gaza, a collective developing reconstruction and education strategies for Gaza."
