IT Teaching/Support Assistant

The project through the means of a Computer Learning Program, aims to enhance the life chances and self-esteem of children living in Salford and Greater Manchester. The Computer Learning Program runs on Tuesdays to Fridays at 6-8pm every week. This program is intertwined with guest speakers who come and talk with the children about future aspirations and goals. We keep each class small, a maximum of 12 children per class, to give scope to helping the children to understand the digital skills they are learning.

We found that most of these children do not have access to computers at home, alongside the lack of understanding of computers and programming by parents or guardians, which puts them at a disadvantage to their peers. The programs that we teach are also not taught as standard in the local schools.

There is a structure programme where the children and young people learn different IT skills. The  classes are categorized into different groups from Junior class, learning the basis of programming, through Intermediate levels to Advance class, learning Python, SQL amongst other programmes. This classes will give you the opportunity to learn other digital skills to enhance your experience. The teachers and support assistant have prior access to the lessons, so they can go through it before the classes to help the children, helping to increase your knowledge as a volunteer.
