What is the household bills bursary?

 

The household bills bursary is an extra pot of money paid into your Inspire fund account automatically for those who are eligible. The university understand that this is a difficult year for all of our students, and especially those in private-rented accommodation who have less control over household bills it can be particularly stressful.
Therefore, the following awards have been made to eligible full time and part time students:

 

Registered on or before 30/11/2022

  • £115 - Full time
  • £60- Part Time

Registered on or after 01/12/2022

  • £60 - Full time
  • £30 - Part time

 

This award is a one-off discretionary payment to support those of you who are facing increasing rent, household bills, and associated household costs

 

Understanding Inspire

The household bills bursary if eligible is automatically transferred into your Inspire account (so no need to apply for it) and this can then be used like would regularly use Inspire funds or you can transfer the cash credit as a cash deposit straight into your bank account. The university have provided a breakdown on how you make the cash deposit and the Inspire website has a shop to use your funds in and explains where to access your account.

 

Who is eligible

Awards must be used by 31/7/23!

Full time and part time students who registered on or before 28th February 2023, and regularly attend campus as part of their academic timetable or completion of studies. To be eligible students will be living in private rented accommodation. Student accommodation type is identified from university records and deemed correct as at 28 February 2023.

Those not eligible include:

Accommodation Type

  • Students living in purpose-built student accommodation / student halls
  • Students living in own property
  • Students living in parental / guardian home
  • Students who’s permanent and term time address are the same

Finances and Funding

  • Students who are not paying rent
  • Students who are sponsored to study at the University

Programme / Study Type

  • Distance learners as they would not be required to attend campus or live in student accommodation
  • Students enrolled on the PgCert for academic staff
  • Single module or short course programmes
  • Degree Apprenticeship programme students
  • Students on programmes funded by an employer
  • Students currently on a period of interruption
  • Students on programmes delivered by partner colleges (Salford City College and Hopwood Hall)

 

We know that this current Cost of Living Crisis whilst studying at university has been tough for everyone and want to provide as much support as we can.
