Stormy

Whether you’re a new student starting at Salford this week or returning after the winter break, the weather can make finding things to do in your free time a little difficult!

So we’ve put together a list of our top ‘weatherproof’ activities that are student-budget friendly and can be enjoyed whatever the weather.

Let's take a look!

Museums

Manchester and Salford have a whole host of museums to suit a variety of interests. Whether you’re into art, history, or football, there’s something for everyone!

Depending on your interests, there’s a range of options within easy reach of the main campus, such as the Salford Museum and Art Gallery, The Lowry, The National Football Museum, and the Imperial War Museum (to name but a few)!

And don't forget that ALL students are eligible for the Student Art Pass, which for just £5 gives you free access to a whole range of museums and galleries, and 50% off some exhibitions!

Treetop Golf

If you’re struggling to think of something to do when it’s raining, Treetop Golf can be another way to get active with all your friends.

Located in Manchester Printworks and only a 2-minute walk from Manchester Victoria, Treetop Golf are currently running a 2-for-1 deal (11am-1pm), while also offering student prices of £8.75 for 18 holes and £13 for 36 holes!

There's also the infamous 19th hole which can reward you with a free session if you can get a hole-in-one. Good luck!

Atmosphere

One of the best places to go on a rainy day is our very own Atmosphere!

Whether it is for food and drink or a change of scenery, it can be the perfect place to socialize, work and relax.

There are so many events coming up this week to participate in, including a sold-out Ship-REC, Bonkers Bingo, and a delicious Sunday roast. But keep your eyes peeled for plenty more exciting events to come this semester!

KICKair Trampoline

Just a short walk from Manchester Victoria, KICKair Trampoline Park is a great place to be on a rainy day. They have so many different activities to take part in within the park, show off your trampoline skills, take part in obstacle courses, or even challenge your friends to a trampoline dodgeball!

They’re open all week 10am – 8pm so students can get 15% off when they are able to show a valid student-ID card on walk-in – 1-hour sessions for only a tenner!

Theatre

In Salford we’re lucky enough to have access to two major theatres in easy reach as well as various smaller regional venues. Whether you’re into plays or musicals, there’s something for everyone!

What you might not have heard is that The Lowry in Salford Quays has an under 30s scheme, where anyone under 30 can get tickets for a variety of shows for just £10. Plus, you can get the free 50 bus to Salford Quays and enjoy an evening of high-quality performances!

And if you’re looking for something a little closer to uni, there are some great performances happening right here on campus in January and February! The New Adelphi Theatre on Peel Park Campus hosts various work from outside companies, as well as society performances and student work. Ticket prices vary depending on the show, so check the theatre website for more information!

Ice Hockey

If you’re into live sport and looking for something a little different, Manchester Storm Ice Hockey has Under-21 tickets for £15!

Home games are played at Planet Ice Altrincham, which is just a short tram ride away from Salford!

Bowling

There are SO many places in Manchester to test your bowling skills and enjoy a value-for-money activity with your friends.

And likewise, so many of these places have student offers! For example, there's half-price bowling at Dogbowl, £6.50 games at Tenpin, and Lane7 (£7 with a valid NUS card).

Whether it’s a warm-up to your big night out or simply a sober activity to keep active, bowling is a great way to have a laugh and compete with each other - barriers down of course…

And if you've completed everything on this list, there's even more to do all around Greater Manchester, so we suggest checking out places like Unidays and Student Beans for the best student deals!
