It’s that very special time of year again – exams and coursework deadlines! Eep.

How are you all doing? For those with exams and assessment deadlines we know it can be overwhelming and full of pressure but we wish you all the very best. You may not be aware of what support there is on campus for you as well, so we’ve included some helpful bits of advice and referrals below.

Good luck, take care of yourselves and each other!

Love from Fiza, Alex, Jasmine, Marina and Todd

General advice from us to you

  • Hit the library - The Library at Clifford Whitworth is open for study and revision 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can view all the Library opening times here.
  • Double check your timetable – Read your timetable carefully.
  • Set your alarm! – Don’t accidently sleep through a morning exam.
  • Phones off – Check your phone, avoid trouble.
  • Know the rules, and follow them – We can support and advise if you find yourself facing academic misconduct, but try avoiding trouble in the first instance. Read the University’s rules.
  • Sick on exam day? - If you miss an exam because of illness or an emergency, contact your School Office immediately. They will advise you of your options.
  • Give yourself time – Find out where the exam room is if you haven’t been there before. Make sure you have plenty of time to manage transport delays, parking, missing socks, etc.
  • Inky goodness – Take enough stationary and spares for your sessions. Spare pens can be bought on campus at a very cheap price.
  • Stock up – You can get great student deals on bottled water, energy drink, fruit and brain foods from our Union shops.
  • Atmosphere is open if you need a quiet space to sit and reflect that isn’t the library or your room. It’s also a great place to blow off steam with your course mates and friends.
  • Atmosphere also has plenty of tablet/laptop benches with power sockets to use - you can cheaply rent phone chargers from the bar as well.
  • Word from Mum - Are you warm/cool enough? Have you eaten, drank and gone to the loo before your exam?

Other support

The University’s Student Life Wellbeing service offers counselling and referral services for students who may be struggling with emotional elements of the exam and revision period

If you need to talk to someone outside business hours, call Nightline (8:00pm to 8:00am). Nightline is a specific student wellbeing phone service that offers an ear to listen. If you’re feeling down or overwhelmed or just need to get something off your chest anonymously, Nightline can help. Their number is on the back of your student card.

You can also use the Samaritans support service on 0161 236 8000 (8:30am to 8:30pm).

Good luck! Lots of love, your Students' Union
