Team Salford, simply put, is sport at Salford. The new name and new brand – which you voted for earlier this year – has been created as part of the ongoing sports partnership between the University of Salford and your Student’s Union. Sport is a vital and exciting part of many students’ lives, and we want to give you a brand and plan that brings that to life.

You have already seen and contributed to some of the small changes that have started to be introduced with Team Salford. Voting on the logo and visual identity of Team Salford and our new Under Armour kit designs. Dwayne ‘the Rock’ Johnson would be proud. But we thought it was time to give you a heads up on some of the other exciting things in the pipeline over the coming year with Team Salford…

Under Armour Kit – many of you have already been involved in this process, but it’s still something to get excited about! The leisure kit will be available to all students, not just those who play on the sports teams - so let’s see how many Team Salford hoodies we can spot round mooching around campus.

Focus Teams – this year we are offering teams the opportunity to apply to become a Focus Sport. Working with the University, there are some additional services we are looking to offer you and your team, as well as some extra support with coaching and training. This will mean additional commitment and consideration from your club, but we are confident it will be totally worth it! More details on this will follow shortly.

Governance of Sport – in September or October there will be the opportunity to run for Student Opportunities Officer. This is a brand new position, giving students a clear voice on how Sports at the University is delivered. The Student Opportunities Officer will run the Sports and Activities Executive, which will feed directly into the USSU Council.

Coaching – we would love to provide all of our sports teams with top coaching, but need to be realistic on how this can be achieved! We will be working with you on the best solutions for this, which could mean some changes to how it has been done in the past. Change can be a great thing!

Campus Leagues – our range of sports being played at campus league level has increased, and we will look to further develop this as the year goes on. Campus Leagues let you battle it out between your flat mates or your course mates for pride and bragging rights!

Give Sport A Go – if all of the above sounds a bit too much for you, don’t worry! Our growing GSAG programme might be more up your street. No commitments, drop in sessions designed especially for those just starting out in a particular sport, or perhaps just trying to get back into the swing of it after a bit of a break!

Those are just a few things to watch out for over the coming year, with plenty more to come…

So have a look over the strategy; it will give you an idea of where we want to be in the next three years. Sport is going on a journey, which will mean some changes in its delivery, but there will always be something that is suitable for you - whatever level you want to take part in. It’s a journey we want as many of you to be a part of as possible.
