Fit to Sit or Submit

Over the next few weeks you will be sitting exams or submitting pieces of coursework, maybe even for the last time! We hope it all goes amazingly well!

Do note however, the University currently takes the view that if you enter an examination room or submit a piece of work, you are declaring yourself “fit and well to take the assessment”. That means you cannot submit PMCs on the basis that your performance in the assessment was affected by personal mitigating circumstances once you have received your results.

If you are extremely unwell, we strongly advise that you consider whether you are really well enough to step into the examination room and take the test or submit your coursework assignment. It would be better to submit a PMC form explaining your absence from the exam or non - submission of your work. If your PMC is accepted then you will be given another opportunity to sit that exam or submit the assessment.

If you become ill during the scheduled exam or presentation, consideration will be given to PMCs. You must report your illness at the time to the invigilator or examiner. You can then submit a PMC form for non- attendance to request an assessment opportunity after the assessment.

In exceptional circumstances, if you are unable to determine if you were fit to sit/submit an assessment, yet have done so, and you have appropriate medical evidence to confirm that you were not in a position to determine your fitness, you can submit a PMC form to request that the assessment attempt should be considered as a non-submission (if coursework) or absence (if you sat the exam).

Remember that PMCs must be submitted

  • In advance of the assessment date if you know you will be unable to attend the examination or submit a piece of assessed work and if relevant evidence is available
  • Within 10 working days after the assessment or submission date with relevant evidence.
