Student Safety

Salford and Manchester like any other major cities have their share of crime. However, it is important to note that Salford University campus is a very safe place to be. We have a low crime rate on campus and the University has invested significantly in high tech security equipment in recent years.

We encourage all students to download the SafeZone app to provide you with access to emergency or urgent assistance should you need it, first aid and the ability to report emergency incidents and concerns.

Personal Safety

Being in a new and unfamiliar environment can take some time to get used to. It is important to consider your personal safety whilst at home, on campus and when you’re out and about.

  • Getting Home Safely -  if you’ve had a late night out or a late night studying at the University we would always suggest taking a bus or taxi instead of walking home after dark. Leave with other trusted people if you can and let someone know what time you will be home.
  • Street Cars is the SU’s recommended taxi service. By calling 0161 228 1551 you can access a priority phone line for Salford students.
  • On A Night Out - In Atmosphere we operate the Ask for Angela scheme - if at any point you feel unsafe or uneasy then please ask a staff member for Angela and they will be able to assist you appropriately. We can also provide bottle stoppers and drink covers.
  • Keeping Your Home Safe – always lock windows and doors, even if you are in the house. Don’t leave valuable items on display and try not to let people follow you through swipe entry gates or doors.
  • Your Important Details – Keep a copy of passports, bank cards and bank details so if they do get stolen you will be able to cancel them easily.
