Societies
University isn't just about hitting the books, it's also about having fun, meeting like minded people and making the most of your University experience. Here at your Students' Union we have a wide range of societies to suit every interest. From performance and cultural, to recreational and political, international and liberation, and academic to student media, if you’ve got an interest then there’s usually a society for you! Best of all, your first session with any of our groups is completely free!
Academic Groups
We know that your courses keeps you busy and can be challenging, so our academic societies are here to help you along. The consistently go the extra mile by puting on workshops, lectures, bringing in external speakers, all while keeping in close contact with their course schools.
Charity and Liberation Groups
Charity and liberation is at the heart of our Union and our societies also provide a space for students to meet likeminded people for social activities, as well as hosting many awareness raising events and showcases.
Faith and Culture
The Union currently has some amazing cultural and faith societies active on campus. They put on some fantastic events, invite inspirational speakers to the University and organise many celebrations over the year which culminates with our One World Week every March. They also have an amazing impact social impact by raising thousands of pounds for their respective chosen charities.
Student Performance
Our student performance societies offer a wide range of activities for you to get involved with. From dance to theatre, and international events to street festivals, they've probably got you covered!
Shock Radio
Your Students' Union is home to your very own student run radio station, Shock Radio. They broadcast throughout the year via their website and app from their studios in the heart of the Students' Union, bringing you the biggest tracks and the news and information that matters to you.
They also offer many opportunities to get involved, from presenting and journalism, to production, music scheduling, promotions and technical operations.
The Salfordian
The Salfordian is the Union's online news outlet. They're always looking for new journalists to join the team, so if you're interested in online journalism make sure you get involved!
Society Events
Throughout the course of the year our student-led groups put on a wide range of events; such as workshops, exhibitions, shows, trips, and much more both for their members and the wider student population here at Salford.
