We are a voluntary club which first opened in 1903 and was set up to get young people off the streets, out of gangs and offer them positive experiences.
The founding aim “To Brighten Young Lives and Make Good Citizens” is what we still do today.
We offer a wide range of sports, arts, and educational opportunities to enable young people to build confidence and make progress in their lives. The young people who attend the club all live locally on the Ordsall Estate or in Pendleton where many families face multiple aspects of poverty.
We provide a lifeline enabling up to 240 young people a week to participate in a wide range of activities.
Boxing, football, cooking and drama are the main activities and we provide opportunities for boys and girls to take part in trips. Every year since 1904 we have organised an annual camp, taking young people off the estate to spend a week in the countryside.
We are based in an amazing historic building and our heritage is an important part of our club.
We are desperately seeking volunteers to help us deliver sports coaching to boys and girls aged from 9 to 16. Activities take place on the astro turf pitches at Ordsall Park and in our own building which contains a sports hall and boxing gym. We are particularly looking for help with football but would welcome anybody willing to give up their time to introduce our young people to new sports. You would be required to assist our existing coaches at sessions which are held on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. If you can only help with one of these sessions that would be fine.
