Denizen Halls Rep

Details Hide[-]

The Students' Union is looking for new volunteers to become part of our Denizen Halls Reps scheme. Our Halls Reps are student volunteers who offer peer support to students living in their halls of residence. They can also signpost students to other support services.

Responsibilities:

  • Offer peer support to students living in your accommodation
  • Signpost students to relevant support services within the Students' Union, University and externally
  • Organise your own events in your accommodation
  • Form part of a Residents' Committee, to represent the views of the students in your halls to the accommodation provider*
  • Attend regular catch-up meetings with the Wellbeing Coordinator

*Only applies to Halls Reps in CLV accommodation

Area Leads

There are now three areas which you can apply to lead the Denizen reps in. These are:

Social Media rep: This rep is responsible for promoting the Denizen scheme and the Denizen reps on social media and to be the main contact for students contacting Denizen reps over social media.

Residents’ Committee: This rep is responsible for advertising the Resident’s Committee and what it does to CLV residents, and to collate all the issues put forward by residents.

Sport: The Sports rep is responsible for promoting and helping organise Campus Leagues teams in  their accommodation. They will also sit on the Campus Leagues committee.

What do you get out of it?

As well as helping other students, volunteering as a Halls Rep is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience and skills, such as:

  • communication and interpersonal skills
  • teamwork
  • problem solving
  • planning and organising
  • self-management

Volunteering will help to enhance your employability when you leave Salford. Denizen reps will also receive comprehensive training including Wellbeing training delivered by University of Salford counsellors, as well as information about all the support services available for students, in order to direct students to the appropriate service when required.

Training:

All volunteers must complete the compulsory training workshops to volunteer for Denizen. The workshops will take place in the week of 9th - 13th September, with the exact dates and times to be confirmed.
