Student-Led Event of the Year Shortlist

Have a look below for who got nominated and a small extract from their nomination.

24 Hour Charity Row (Rowing Club)

Salford university boat club managed to fundraise over a thousand pounds for Macmillan cancer support, following three of our team have lost a parent in the last 12 months alone. Their resilience and team effort was incredible and it is something we all should look up to. The four girls trained extremely hard to get to the fitness to row 40 miles further than their desired target. The rest of the rowing team came to support the four women throughout the night which highlights the team spirit we cherish so much.

Charity Quiz (Snow Sports Club)

Salford Snow hosted their first ever charity quiz and bingo night in aid of Protect our Winters, an environmental awareness charity focussing on raising awareness that climate change is having on our snowy playground and therefore the existence of our sport. We were able to raise a total of £250 which we donated to the charity. We will aim for an even bigger and better evening next year with a bigger fundraising target, but we kicked off with a mighty success.

Metrolink Challenge (Shock Radio Society)

The teatime show The Monday Mix on Shock Radio decided to take on a one day challenge, covering the whole of Manchester's Metrolink network in record time. On the day of the event, the show made use of social media to provide coverage of the journey, with Instagram stories and tweets from the show Twitter page. As more people began sharing the coverage online, The Manchester Evening News saw the story and contacted Shock Radio, asking if the presenters would be available for an interview. An article was subsequently published by the MEN.

Restart a Heart Day (Nursing Society)

During restart a heart day, the Salford Nursing Society teamed up with staff from the clinical skills team at the University of Salford to teach students across the University how to do CPR and to save a life. This event was developed since many students across the University weren't aware of how to do CPR and we spent the afternoon in University House teaching both staff and students this crucial skill in order to save lives.
