There are five full time elected sabbatical officer positions. These positions include one Students’ Union President and four Students’ Union Officers who will have responsibility for specific schools.

If elected you'll get to work for a year on the issues that matter to students and have the opportunity to make big changes that will impact on students’ lives. Sabbatical officers run events, launch campaigns, lobby university officials and much more!

All the Officers lead the Union and ensure it is representing students and campaigning to improve life at Salford. You will also be a member of the Trustee Board and responsible for holding staff to account and overseeing the Union finances to make sure money is spent so it benefits students.

The Sabbatical Officers work with Union staff to promote student interest in Union events including a varied social calendar and lead on development of specific areas of the union such as sports, activities, campaigns, academic issues, community issues and employability.

Sabbatical Officer work full time from the 1st July and are paid a wage of approximately £18,263

Positions Available
President

As President you will represent the voice of students, campaign on issues affecting them and implement Union policy. The President will also chair the trustee board of the Students’ Union and lead the sabbatical team of four Officers, championing and supporting their work. You will be the key contact with the University Vice Chancellor and the National Union of Students. You will lead on the union’s strategic direction. You will be the spokesperson of the Students’ Union to the wider community and other external contacts (e.g.. press). 

Business and Law Officer

As an Officer you will represent the voice of students, campaign on issues affecting them and implement Union policy. You will represent students within the School of Business and Law. You will lead the campaigns, democracy, and representation in that school working with student reps and schools reps to identify and campaign on issues that matter to students. You will lead on education or academic developments within your schools in conjunction with the other Sabbatical Officers.

Science and Technology Officer As an Officer you will represent the voice of students, campaign on issues affecting them and implement Union policy. You will represent students within the School of Science and Technology. You will lead the campaigns, democracy, and representation in that school working with student reps and schools reps to identify and campaign on issues that matter to students. You will lead on education or academic developments within your schools in conjunction with the other Sabbatical Officers.
Arts and Media Officer As an Officer you will represent the voice of students, campaign on issues affecting them and implement Union policy. You will represent students within the School of Arts and Media. You will lead the campaigns, democracy, and representation in that school working with student reps and schools reps to identify and campaign on issues that matter to students. You will lead on education or academic developments within your schools in conjunction with the other Sabbatical Officers.
Health and Social Care Officer As an Officer you will represent the voice of students, campaign on issues affecting them and implement Union policy. You will represent students within the School of Health Sciences. You will lead the campaigns, democracy, and representation in that school working with student reps and schools reps to identify and campaign on issues that matter to students. You will lead on education or academic developments within your schools in conjunction with the other Sabbatical Officers.

At 6pm on Thursday the 08th March there will be a candidate’s celebration in Atmosphere Kitchen and Bar. The results will not be announced at this stage. This is a night to celebrate with your campaign teams and friends you’ve made on the campaign trial for all the hard work you’ve undertaken.

We’ll have awards for the best posters, best video and best campaign theme and certificates for all the candidates that made it this far. There may even be special food or drinks deals for candidates! Come along to celebrate this great exercise of democracy!

The election results will be announced after 5pm in the students' union.
