Role Chef
Hours 35-hours per week (to be worked flexibly) over 38 weeks 
Salary £14,390 (Equivalent to a full time wage of £19,900)

Delivery:

  • Cook and prepare a wide range of food safely and hygienically  

  • Deliver amazing customer service when in customer facing positions 

  • Support catering delivery across the campus when required  

  • Ensure all catering equipment is cleaned and properly maintained  

Development: 

  • Assist the kitchen manager in designing new menus and services

Stakeholders: 

  • Helping to develop new student staff ensuring they are safe and maintain food hygiene at all times 

  • Working alongside venue management and student staff to ensure food orders are correct and delivered to the correct customer

Compliance: 

  • Ensure compliance with the Union’s policies, University policies and all relevant legislation – including Health and Safety, 1992 Education Act and Data Protection. 

  • To ensure all allergen info is up to date at all times  

  • To comply with all current food safety legislation, ensuing all documentation is fully complete   

  • Ensure food safety standards and records are maintained across all catering areas. 

Other: 

  • Help our Full Time Officers achieve their manifesto commitments. 

  • Actively engage in student-facing projects and activities of all kinds as required.  

  • Be an enthusiastic advocate for student leadership and the organisation’s values. 

  • Maintain your own professional networks and promote the Union on a local and national level. 

  • To undertake such other duties of a comparable nature as may be requested by the Venue Management Team from time to time. 

 

  Knowledge and Experience 

  • An in date food safety qualification- preferably Level 2 or above  

  • Experience of working in a high volume kitchen environment  

  • Knowledge of food safety, Fire and Health and Safety regulations  

  • Have a passion for quality food and an interest in current food trends  

  Skills and Abilities 

  • Ability to work as a team as well as using own initiative  

  • Record keeping in relation to food safety practices  

  • Managing tasks and priorities  

  • Amazing customer service skills  

  • Outstanding communication skills  

  • Calm disposition especially when under pressure  

  • Understanding of kitchen financials- ie GP %
