2020 article our picks tv 01

So we’ve all been stuck inside for a while and I don’t know about you but I was convinced that I was going to finally make it through all those TV recommendations I’ve been given over the years, and yet I’ve been watching re-runs of the same shows again and again! So, we asked some of our SU staff members to give us their picks for the TV shows that everyone should see at least once.

Ready to try something new? Then consider one of these:

The X-Files

Available on Amazon video

90s Gillian Anderson is both a style icon and role model for every girl who grew up during the show’s run.

Bonus: The Fall, where she plays a detective inspector hunting for Jamie Dornan’s serial killer, is also fantastic.

- Hannah

Killing Eve

Available on BBC iPlayer

Centred around the relationship between a female assassin and the detective so eager to chase her, Killing Eve is gripping, unexpected and always stylish. And with the new series out this week, what better time to binge the first 2 series!

- Jenna

Chefs’ Table

Available on Netflix

If you want beautiful food, a nostalgic back story and an uplifting environment of people helping people, this show is for you

-George

Being Human

Available on Netflix

A werewolf, vampire and ghost share a flat. Featuring Russel Tovey and Aidan Turner (from Poldark)

- Luke

Sex Education

Available on Netflix

Touching on an incredible range of hard hitting topics surrounding coming of age, Sex Education is a hysterical new Netflix original series packed with laughs and emotion. Based around the main character and his sexual therapist mother, Sex Ed is stunningly stylised and addictive, which will leave you horny for the next season to be released

 - Dave

The Chef Show

Available on Netflix

Worth watching just to see Roy Choi and Jon Favreau. Easy watching and good follow up to the film 'Chef'.

- Andy

Derry Girls

Available on All4

Genuinely one of the best comedies of recent years. Following the lives of possibly the four most chaotic teenage girls (and one wee English fella) in Derry, Northern Ireland during the 1990’s. Somehow they manage to combine the horrors of growing up in the middle of the troubles on the border of Northern Ireland with the pure awkward comedy of being a teenager. Seriously why haven’t you watched this show already?!

- Ruby

The Mandalorian

Available on Disney+

Baby Yoda, baby baby Yoda! Whether or not you are a Star Wars fan, this flagship Disney+ show is an instant classic. Trust me, you’ll love it!

- Maddie
