It’s the last week of our Wellbeing Month and we’re focusing on self-care. Self-care is crucial to improving your wellbeing and reducing stress. It’s so important to look after yourself, especially now as winter sets in. Winter can be a trying time, as the days are shorter and darker, and combined with the cold weather, you may feel lethargic or a bit down. We've put together a few tips to help you look after yourself during winter.

Get outside

Make an effort to get outside in the light and fresh air as often as you can, and at least once a day. Not only is it good for replenishing your vitamin D, but it also gets you out of your room. Being cooped up inside for too long is not good for your mental health or your body. A great way to beat the winter blues is to get outside into the fresh air every day.

Keep yourself warm

It can get cold in student houses and energy bills can rise during winter. You can warm yourself up by making a hot meal or drink; being hungry often makes you feel colder. Also, invest in a blanket and a hot water bottle- they’re essential for the cold Salford weather!

Eat healthily

During winter we’re more susceptible to catching colds or flu. A healthy diet helps to keep your immune system strong and better equipped to fight off illnesses. Make sure you’re eating enough fruit, vegetables and protein. Curries, chilli and lasagne are a few simple and healthy meals that are perfect winter.

Pamper yourself

Salford City College offer cheap beauty treatments at their Aspirations hair & beauty salon. They also offer a pamper day for just £20, which includes a facial, manicure and pedicure, a conditioning treatment, plus a blow dry, with lunch also included!
