SURL players join the North West Universities team 2017

University of Salford Rugby League Club (SURL) saw an impressive 6 players join the North West Universities Rugby League team to play in the University Regionals #UniRegionalsRL North West v North East match on 3rd December 2017.

Coach Alex Davidson, who joined the SURL team as head coach in September 2017, has worked the team hard on the pitch and in the gym, and the dedication from the team so far has saw a massive improvement in performance. 

 

SURL are proud to have had the following players join the North West team after trials:

Joe Woolley (SURL Captain) - 2nd year Sport Science

Josh Hill - 3rd year Economics

Hasan Sadrazam - 3rd year Building Surveying

Conor Mulcahy - 3rd year Graphic Design

Danny Norman - 2nd year Sport Science

Daniel Munt - 1st year Sport Science

Tom Johnson - 1st Year Sport Science

 

After a gruelling derby match against Manchester University which saw an impressive final score of 16-36 and Salford moving to the top of the BUCS Northern 2A League; the lads went on to play 4 days later at the Kingston Park Stadium in Newcastle. 

The North East took the lead at the start of the first half 10-0, with North West making sure to see the half out with scores on the board at 22-6.  After a big drive in the last 40 minutes and North West scoring 3 tries and 2 conversions the scores were tied at 22-22.  In the dying minutes Zac Hartley placed a cheeky drop goal from just inside the North East half giving the North West the victory at 23-22.
