The Students' Union's radio station, Shock Radio, has been nominated for over twenty awards over the last month! The society have worked diligently over the past year to deliver a range of activities and opportunities for its members from outside broadcasting and live commentating Varsity, the Two Cities Challenge, and a Salford Red Devils match, to covering the Women in Sports Conference for #ThisSalfordGirlCan, to welcoming Greg James to their studios during Welcome and raising over £1000 for charity with overnight rowing challenges and charity club nights.

The first came from the National Societies Awards where they have been shortlisted for Best Student Media Society, competing against societies from across the UK and beating over 100 nominations.

Station Manager Alex Hughes commented saying:

"To be nominated for this award is an amazing honour for all of us at Shock Radio. This highlights the amazing effort we have all put in over the past year and I feel privileged to be the manager of this amazing station which is full of fantastic and hardworking students."

The Union's Societies and Sports Officer, Megan Hayward, also commented saying:

"I am so immensely proud of Shock Radio for being shortlisted in the Student Media Society category, proving to be one of the strongest media societies in the country! During my time at Salford, I have witnessed Shock go from strength to strength in the world of Student Radio, so to see it getting some national recognition is incredible. Every single member of Shock Radio should be proud of themselves for all their hard work over the past year, from podcasters to producers, team members to techies. You've made Shock Radio the society and the station it is today. Well Done everyone, good luck!"

The nominations kept coming in from the I Love Student Radio Awards where the station have picked up nominations for Best Training Initiative for their producer workshops, Best Audience Initiative for the quantity of outside broadcasts they have done, and Most Improved Radio Station. The station also picked up nominations for Best Outreach Project for their coverage of #ThisSalfordGirlCan Women in Sport Conference, which was hosted by their Head of Social Media, Hannah-Mae Graham, and their Red Nose Day Row-A-Thon. The station's sports and events team have each been nominated for Team of the Year.

All this follows on from their Station Manager, Alex, being nominated for a University of Salford Create Student Award for Overall Best Contribution, and Hannah-Mae Graham and Megan Hayward being nominated for the University’s Women’s Voice Awards, with Hannah-Mae receiving Highly Commended in the Rising Star Category.
