Microwave meals you can make in a mug

By the time you’ve prepped your ingredients, pre-heated the oven and waited for your dinner to cook, you’ve spent well over an hour in the kitchen and your rumbling tummy isn’t getting any better. Sometimes, you just need a quick fix to ease your hunger or satisfy your sugar crave. From pasta and pizza, to brownies and chocolate cake, we've compiled 5 yummy dishes that can be easily cooked in under 5 minutes. All you need is a mug, a microwave and a few cupboard essentials.

Pizza

You will need:

· 4 tbsp of plain flour

· 3 tbsp of milk

· 1 tbsp of olive oil

· Pinch of baking powder

· Pinch of bicarbonate soda

· Pinch of salt

· 1 ½ tbsp of tomato pasta sauce

· 1 ½ tbsp of grated cheese

· Pizza topping of your choice!

What to do:

1. Put the flour, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda and salt into your mug and mix.

2. Add the milk and olive oil into your dry ingredients and stir until a smooth batter is formed.

3. Spread your tomato pasta sauce across the top of the batter

4. Sprinkle the cheese on top and add the toppings of your choice

5. Pop it in the microwave for 1 minute

Chocolate Cake 

You will need:

· 4 tbsp of plain flour

· 3 tbsp of sugar

· 2 tbsp of cocoa powder

· ½ tbsp of baking powder

· 3 tbsp of milk

· 1 tbsp of oil

· 1 tbsp of vanilla extract

· Dollop of chocolate spread or a handful of chocolate chips

What to do:

1. Mix all ingredients into a mug

2. Place your chocolate spread or chocolate chips on top

3. Microwave for 1 min 30 secs

Blueberry French Toast

You will need:

· 1 slice of bread, cut into cubes

· 1 egg

· 2 tbsp of milk

· Dash of cinnamon

· ½ tsp vanilla extract

· Handful of blueberries

· Maple syrup, to drizzle (optional)

What to do:

1. In a bowl, add your egg, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla, and mix.

2. In a mug, place half of the cubed bread and desired amount of blueberries.

3. Place the rest of the bread, berries, and the egg mixture into the mug.

4. Microwave for 1½ minutes or until the egg is fully cooked.

5. Drizzle over maple syrup or anything you have handy in your cupboard & enjoy!

Chocolate Brownie

You will need:

· 5 tbsp flour

· 3 tbsp sugar

· 3 tbsp cocoa powder

· 2 tbsp melted butter

· 4 tbsp milk

· Ice cream (optional)

· Chocolate chips (optional)

What to do:

1. Mix all the ingredients, and add the chocolate chips (optional), with a fork until thoroughly mixed. Make sure you scrape all the ingredients that are stuck to the bottom and the sides.

2. Microwave for approx 1½ minutes.

3. Leave for 2 minutes to continue to cook and cool down.

4. Add the ice cream on top (optional) and enjoy!

Mac n Cheese 

You will need:

· 50g macaroni

· 120ml water

· 3 tbsp milk

· Salt & pepper, to taste

· 25g of grated cheese

What to do:

1. Mix the macaroni, water and salt in a microwaveable mug.

2. Microwave for 2-3 minutes, then stir.

3. Add the milk, cheese, salt and pepper, then stir.

4. Microwave for another 30 seconds, stir, and enjoy!

 

Realistically, these meals probably won’t compare to a homemade, oven-baked alternative. But they are a quick fix if you’re peckish on a particularly lazy day. Plus, what better time to test out quirky DIY cooking ideas that pop up on your feed?
