Mental Health support at Salford

Today is World Mental Health Day, so in this blog post we've put together some key contact details of support services at the university and externally which can help you with your mental health and wellbeing. 

 

On Campus Support Services

University Counselling & Wellbeing Service

The service offers appointments with Wellbeing Advisors, as well as counselling and workshops on issues such as anxiety and procrastination. To book a wellbeing appointment, you can email, phone or fill in the online referral form, which you can find here

Rafiki Peer Support 

Rafiki is the Students’ Union’s brand new peer support listening service. If you're experiencing any problems while you're at uni, you can come in and talk to our trained student volunteers. They can also signpost you to support services on campus or externally which can help. Rafiki is a drop-in service, so you don't need an appointment. You can find Rafiki in University House, on the Lower Ground Floor. The opening times are subject to change, so check the website for the opening times each week.

Denizen Halls Reps

Denizen provides peer support in student accommodation at Salford. The Students' Union have student volunteers who are there for you if you need someone to talk to. Currently, we have halls reps in Peel Park Quarter, John Lester & Eddie Colman, iQ Student Quarter & Tramways. You can find out who your reps are, and contact them here.

Medical Centre

The Medical Centre is a GP service just for Salford students. It's based on the 1st floor in the Maxwell building on Peel Park campus.

External Support Services

Papyrus

Papyrus HopeLine is a confidential support and advice service for young people under the age of 35 experiencing thoughts of suicide, or anyone who is concerned about a young person feeling this way. HopeLine is open every day of the year, and is staffed by experienced professionals who are trained in suicide intervention skills.

Nightline

Manchester Nightline is a confidential listening and information service run by students in the local area, for students at universities across Manchester. It offers anonymous, non-judgemental and non-directive support for all callers, regardless of the situation. They are available to contact between 8pm and 8am every night of term, including during exam period. Their phone number is on the back of every Salford Student ID card, and you can also instant message them on their website. 

Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM)

CALM is a charity dedicated to preventing male suicide. They can offer support to men in the UK via the phone helpline, instant messaging and their website.

The Sanctuary

Sanctuary is a Greater Manchester based nightly service which provides support to people who are experiencing anxiety, panic attacks, depression, suicidal thoughts or are in crisis. The Sanctuary offers a space to talk, and assistance with coping after the initial crisis. The service is open between 8pm - 6am.

Anxiety UK

Anxiety UK works to relieve those living with anxiety and anxiety-based depression, by providing information, support and understanding via an extensive range of services, including 1:1 therapy. They also provide an Infoline and a Text Service.
