Our Mental Health Awareness blog for today is written by English & Drama student, Tom Booth, who is a Team Salford Activator and represents Salford in the Pole Vault at BUCS competitions.

I cannot express enough how much sport has become my greatest outlet for my mental
health. Throughout all the stress of my exams and assessments, training has become
something I depend on; as well as being a physical outlet for stress it ultimately provides
me with a sense of purpose and direction which has become fundamental to overcoming
my anxiety.

Training six times a week gives me something to work towards, striving day in day out to
become the best athlete and person I can be. The whole lifestyle of playing sport has also
been of huge benefit to me; training helps me follow a solid routine where I can sleep well
at night, clear my mind of stresses and worries, and cook healthy, tasty food. When every
second of the day becomes precious in working towards your goals, you begin to see the
beauty of living in the present moment and take advantage of every opportunity to
achieve what you are aiming for.

Tom runs some of our Give Sport A Go sessions. You can find more information about Give Sport A Go here
