Thursday's blog is written by Sports Science student, Owen Parry. Owen is a member of the Badminton Club.

Sport has a huge effect upon general wellbeing, badminton for me provides a social aspect where I can meet new people and establish new friendships. I am a first year university student and for me participating in sport provides a cathartic release from pressures such as exams, and can help me relax in-between revision and lectures.

Playing sport can help improve my general mood, giving me a positive mental attitude to knuckle down with work and giving me more productive days. Often when not having a break to play sport, I tend to lose concentration. When this happens I can go and play sport and come back to studies after feeling fresh and ready to work again. Finally, it puts me in a general better mood and can aid my sleeping. After playing I will often be very tired and it will give me a better nights sleep, making me feel better the next day, getting up early and feeling ready for the day to come.
