Salford Students' Union are leading the way to make renting more transparent, open and fair.

In a move to make students more confident when renting, Salford Students' Union are collaborating with Marks Out Of Tenancy, a review platform for tenants to openly share their rental experiences.

Tenants rate their landlord and/or letting agent, their rental property and their neighbourhood. Future students looking to rent in and around Salford can then use this information to find accommodation that is suitable for them. Salford Students’ Union is looking to remove guesswork from the student rental search.

Salford Students' Union believes more information allows for better decisions, especially when it comes to something as important as the place you call home.

With both good and bad landlords operating in Salford, it is vital for renters to be better informed about who they're renting from before signing any contracts.

“Decent, affordable student housing plays a very important role in improving the student experience. By promoting Marks Out Of Tenancy, we’re looking for increased transparency, to expose rogue Landlords and to help students in making an informed decision when choosing where to live.” – Kobby Ofori, Science & Technology Officer

With huge changes in regulation for landlords, why do we continue to read stories of rogue landlords and letting agents?

Salford Students' Union are leading the way by promoting Marks Out Of Tenancy to their students – encouraging them to use market forces to drive change, rather than relying on legislation to improve housing conditions.

“We need to get this right! Students deserve good value for money when paying for housing, especially with student rental prices being as high as they currently are. This means good housing conditions and proper support from parent universities, student unions and local authorities.” – Kobby Ofori, Science & Technology Officer

Marks Out Of Tenancy doesn’t just look for the input of the renter, landlords and letting agents are encouraged to respond to reviews as well.

Salford Students' Union, along with other students' unions across the UK including Oxford, Brighton, Surrey, Bristol, and Newcastle are recommending their students rate and review their rented accommodation so future renters can make better informed decisions.

Share your tenancy experience on www.marksoutoftenancy.com today and let’s make renting more open and transparent for everyone.
