Light up your weekend with these FIVE bonfire night events in Salford and Greater Manchester!

You may have seen that a number bonfire night events have been cancelled across Greater Manchester this year... but we’ve found five events that are still going ahead and are great for students’ budgets!

Let's take a look!

Buile Hill Park, Salford

This event is FREE to attend on Saturday 5th November, and gates and car parks will open at 4pm. There will be THREE firework displays - the first one is at 5pm and the main display starts at 7:30pm.

That’s not all - there will also be a funfair and entertainment, plus you can food and drinks throughout the night! And to reduce the carbon footprint of the event, there will be no bonfire lit this year.

Located right in the centre of Salford, this event is within walking distance from main campus. Or, if you live a little further away, you can get a cheap taxi there.

Prince’s Park, Irlam

This event takes place on Sunday 6th November, and is also free! Why not go to both?

The site opens at 5pm, but the bonfire will be lit at 7pm with the main firework display starting at 8pm! Oh and did we mention, there's also a Funfair on offer?

Prince’s Park is just a 20 minute drive from main campus, but event organisers are advising people to arrive by public transport due to limited parking. You can catch the 67 bus from Salford University to Lathom Road, which is just a short walk from the park itself.

Roe Green Cricket Club, Worsley

This event is ticketed, but for £7 you'll have access to TWO displays in one night - perfect for a student budget!

The gates will open at 5pm, with the bonfire being lit at 6pm and the first display at 7pm. This event will also host local food and drinks vendors.

To get there, you can get a V1/V2 Bus from Salford University to Old Clough Lane, taking about half an hour.

Lancashire Mining Museum, Astley

Got a taste for some treacle toffee? How about some traditional black peas? Maybe this is the event for you!

This event is on Saturday 5th November and is ticketed, but you can get there via bus so check out this link for more details! There's even a live ukulele band...

Shaw cricket club

This one is the largest firework display in Oldham so it's looking like a big one...

Taking place on Saturday 5th November, you can get a ticket for £5 through this link. As for getting there from campus, it's a half an hour drive, or you can hop on the tram towards Rochdale Town Centre (pink line), hopping off at Shaw and Crompton.

We also spoke to a station manager at Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue, David Campbell. He couldn't recommend these events more highly:

"They’re well run, organised, pre-planned, with all the safety measures in place. If you are using your own fireworks, you to need to ensure that they’re bought from a reputable retailer. But I can’t stress enough that I would recommend going to one of these organised events - you’ll have much more fun in the safety of an organised event."

So hopefully you can get to one of these 'banging' events this weekend!
