Former University of Salford Students’ Union President, Zamzam Ibrahim was last night elected the new President for the National Union of Students.

Zamzam started her career at the University of Salford Students’ Union over the 2015/16 academic year where she was elected as Vice-President, Business & Law. She went on to complete her degree in Business and Financial Management the following year and returned to lead the Union when she was elected as President in 2017/18.

Currently in the role as NUS Vice-President of Society & Citizenship, Zamzam will take up her role as NUS National President on July 1st. After the announcement of her victory late in the evening of Tuesday 09 April at National Conference in Glasgow, the President-elect said:

“I am immensely proud and humbled to have been elected the National President of NUS. Education is a transformative experience for millions in the UK and it is now time to make sure everyone is able to access that promise. There are many challenges ahead, but together we will meet them and revitalise our Union.”

When asked about Zamzam’s victory, the University of Salford Students’ Union CEO, Ed Moloney said: “Salford students should be incredibly proud that one of their own has been elected to this prestigious position. Education was transformative for Zamzam as it is for all Salford students, and it’s great to see Zamzam using her leadership, talent and skill to ensure that the promise of education is offered to as many people as possible, and that students don’t face barriers to their learning. Congratulations again to Zamzam on what is a great achievement!”
