Get involved in sport

Become part of Team Salford and get into sport at university. The Students’ Union has over 40 student sports clubs. You can join our sports groups at any time in the year, not just during Welcome Week, and you first session is always free so you can try out as many new things as you want. It’s a great way to meet new people and make friends with a shared interest, or find a new sport you like. Click here for a full list of sports clubs.

The Students’ Union also has the Give Sport A Go programme, which has a different approach to participation in sport. The programme runs free, no commitment drop-in sessions every week, so you can have a go at different sports and find something that suits you. Give Sport A Go sessions are non-competitive and are a relaxed environment for you to join in with sport, whatever your ability. You can see the full timetable of sports here.

Join an activity group

If sport isn’t your thing, the Students’ Union also has loads of activity groups you can get involved with. Right now we have 105 different groups, so there really is something for everyone! We have academic course based societies, international groups, faith groups, political groups as well as a wide variety of different interest groups. To see the full list, click here.

Talk to your Denizen reps

If you live in University accommodation, then you can talk to your Denizen reps- they’re your wellbeing support network in accommodation and are there for you if you’re ever struggling with life at uni, feeling isolated or alone, or even if you just want someone friendly to talk to. They’ll listen to you and can advise you about the support services on campus which can help. You can talk to your reps face-to-face or email them if you prefer. For more information about your Denizen reps and to get in touch with them, click here.

Speak to a Wellbeing advisor

The University has Wellbeing advisors you can speak to. They don’t offer medical advice but you can discuss any personal issues with an advisor, and they will offer you practical advice, support and suggest further steps you can take to improve your wellbeing. If they feel you would benefit from counselling, they can also refer you to the University’s counselling service. For more information and to book an appointment with a Wellbeing advisor, click here.

Relax at the Health Hub

The University offers relaxation sessions in the Health Hub (located in the Sports Centre). The services they provide include aromatherapy, Indian head massage, reflexology and more- at cheap prices to help you relax and de-stress. Click here to find out more and to book.

Go to a Wellbeing workshop

The Wellbeing service provides free specialist workshops for students, on a range of issues to help you improve your wellbeing. The workshops include sessions on mindfulness, procrastination, anxiety, stress, self-confidence and more. For a full list and details of the workshops and to sign up, click here.

Call Nightline

Nightline is a confidential listening and information service run for students by students. It offers anonymous and non-judgemental support for all callers, regardless of the situation. They’re available to contact between 8pm and 8am every night of term time, even during exam periods. You can find their phone number on the back of your Student ID card, or you can email them on nightmail@manchester.nightline.ac.uk
