We asked your Arts and Media Officer, Megan to put together a list of her favourite podcasts for you all and boy did she deliver! So, whether you are looking for some entertainment that doesn’t involve watching a screen or you want something to listen to during your morning run then check out these fantastic suggestions

1) Flatshare Slamdown

Stuck in your flat? Falling out with your housemates with nowhere to go? Consider yourself lucky and listen to Pappy’s Flatshare Slamdown! Join a bunch of comedians with a live audience solving a range of house-based scenarios- some real and some that are just ridiculous!

Top tip for getting into a new podcast: Find an episode with a special guest that you know and listen to it first, and you’ll soon get hooked!

2) fARTing around

I wouldn’t be much of a Shock Radio alumni if I didn’t highlight at least one of the incredible podcasts that they have on offer! fARTing around is essentially 3 mates talking about Theatre, films, music and everything in between- it won Best Podcast at the Shock Radio Awards last year, so why not give the best of the best a listen?

3) Student Discount

Okay, excuse me for plugging my own podcast but hey, look, I have a podcast! If you want to hear comedians (and just funny people in general) talking about what university was like for them and how doing a degree might not be that related to the career they are in now, then check out Student Discount! I produce it, with my friend (and current comedy writing and performance student) Maisy Whipp hosting! There’s only a few episodes out at the moment but we’ve got more planned for the future so keep an eye on this space…

4) My dad wrote a porno

Arguably one of the main podcasts responsible for the absolute boom in podcasts in recent years. Exactly what it says in the title- someone’s dad wrote an erotic novel…badly. So he did what anyone would do and decided to read it aloud to his two best friends on a podcast for the whole world to hear! Listen to the tales of Belinda Blinked with Jamie, James and Alice.

5) Elis James and John Robins

I love them. Simple as that really. Whether you find their old Radio X episodes or catch them on 5Live- this comedic duo is iconic! (Have you guessed by now that I really like comedy?) Elis James’ brings you soothing dulcet Welsh tones talking about nostalgia, football and Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci combined with John Robins’ self-loathing, shame wells and sarcasm creates the ultimate light-hearted listen. They’ve also got a special podcast called How Do You Cope? In which they chat to special guests about the ways in which they cope with the struggles in their life (my favourite episode so far features Sally Phillips!)

6) The Guilty Feminist

Now you might be tempted to think “I’m not a feminist” and skip straight past this suggestion… well don’t! This is one of the most insightful podcasts I listen to! As you can see from the list, I mainly listen to comedy stuff and whilst The Guilty Feminist is hosted by comedians and features stand up sets, it also is incredibly informative and has shaped a lot of my views on the world in the recent years, I’ve been listening. Give it a whirl, you might be surprised at how much you love it!

7) RHLSTP (RHLSTP!) a.k.a Richard Herring’s Leicster Square Theatre Podcast

The simplest of formats - Richard Herring joined by a special guest or 2 to talk about absolutely anything and everything. Again, mainly comedians (we all need something to laugh about right now though!) but there is the occasional non-comedy guest! Like I said earlier, find an episode with a guest who you already know and like and before you know it you will have binge-listened hundreds of hours! It’s daft, a little bit rude at times but it’s my go-to easy listening podcast. They are also all on YouTube! So you can watch the interviews play out…

8) GrownUpLand

I have only just started listening to GrownUpLand but it has quickly become a favourite! Each episode covers a different topic starting with “Now that I’m an adult, do I have to….?” It’s really reassuring to hear that no one else has their lives together and it’s also quite nice to hear different perspectives on everything from getting married to going to art galleries!

9) The Naughtiest Noughty

What WAS the best hit pop song of the 00s? Well if you like your pop music then this is the perfect podcast for you! Liam and Scott go through all the hits of the noughties episode by episode, until only one pop song remains and is declared the winner! I love this podcast because it’s really new, so I don’t feel like I am playing catch up or intimidated by hundreds of episodes to get through. Liam and Scott are also very charismatic and hilarious, it’s also nostalgic AF.

10) Like minded friends

Tom Allen and Suzie Ruffell are perfect company for any long journeys or relaxing afternoons. Chatty, lovely and just comforting I guess.
