Three years ago Students’ Union successfully applied for the Sport England Active Universities fund. The money awarded was to be spent on a participation programme to be run to get students more active. The target number of participants over the three years was 1337, USSU being USSU smashed this target during the second year of funding and now have had over 2200 individual participants – well done!! The programme has featured 18 different sports aimed at all University of Salford students but has now begun to wind down as funding ends next month, but it did finish in style with over 130 students playing a touch rugby and rounders tournament at the end of May. The programme has been great for the students of Salford as it is significantly reduced the number of barriers into participation.
USSU are pleased to annouced they have been sucesfull in their funding bid to ensure the GSAG project will run for another 3 years (2014-2017). This is a very exciting time for participation sport at the University of Salford - over the next three years we will be focusing on more intramural student leagues as well as keeping weekly sporting sessions running.
