Why did you run for Sabbatical Officer?

I ran in the elections as I wanted a new challenge. I worked in Bar Yours for four years and heard a lot about the Students’ Union. I thought I would like to have a more proactive role in the fight for students’ rights and look forward to gaining wins for our students at Salford.

What do you do when you’re not working at the Union?

I love music so outside of work I love going to festivals and gigs around Manchester. After a session at the gym I enjoy a night in watching a movie and stuffing my face with tea and biscuits. I also enjoy reading a lot as I studied English Literature and set some time aside for singing and playing violin. My aim for this year is to be competent on the guitar by next summer as I appear to be struggling to learn to play if anyone would fancy giving me a hand.

What do you want to do after this year?

After this year I plan on doing my Masters and would love to be able to fit in some travelling at some point. Judging on how my time goes as a Sabbatical Officer this plan could well change so I’m willing to play it by ear at the moment.

What big plans do you have for the Union?

I’m really excited about enforcing the Salford Bill of Students’ Rights and seeing some changes made from the university on that front. In the current financial climate it is important that students get what they deserve and I hope the Union will have a positive impact on the student experience at Salford. I am also keen on creating a sense of Salford community spirit both in university and with the local community through some collaborative workshops and projects.

What is your favourite food?

I love most food so find it hard to choose a favourite although I am rather fond of Spaghetti Bolognese and of Stir Fry. I love veg so anything with lots of that and of course you’ve got to love dipping chocolate in tea!

What would you do with one million pounds?

I’d begin with giving some to charity and then I’d buy a Honda CBR 1000RR Fireblade to zoom around on. I’d also buy a VW Camper and travel around the world blasting some tunes in my mobile home as I’m a massive hippie at heart. I would also buy myself a rather impressive vinyl record collection as at the minute it is growing rather slowly but surely. I would pay for my parents to go on holiday and buy a lovely country house to live in and write novels when I finally return from jetsetting around the globe.

What is your favourite thing about University of Salford?

The Students’ Union of course. When I first visited Salford for my audition in Adelphi it felt very friendly and homely in comparison to some of the other universities I visited so I would have to say my favourite thing about Salford University was the welcoming feeling I got when I first arrived.
