Student Council is a new part of the Students’ Union’s democratic structure, offering more opportunities for students to be involved in discussion, debate, and the representative work of the Union. The Council is made up of 22 Student Councillors who take leadership roles within the Union’s representation and campaigning work, making recommendations to the Sabbatical Officers as to the direction of the Union. Council meetings are open to all students, and any student may submit an item to be discussed and voted on by the Council. As well as making recommendations, the Council reviews and scrutinises the work of the Sabbatical team, working with them to ensure that the needs of students are being met.
