Registering with a Doctor

Most students will go through University without having any serious health issues. However it is very important that all those students living away from home are registered with a doctor.  To register with a GP you must live within the 'catchment area' of that GP's practice. The University also has its own health centre in the Maxwell Building. You may find also it useful to visit the NHS  website for more information.


NHS Direct

If you need advice about a medical condition, you can contact NHS direct

Tel: 0845 4647. English interpreters are available, ask for help by naming your own language or country.


Dentist

To find out if you are entitled to free dental treatment you can visit the NHS Website for more information. You can also carry out a search for dental practices in your local area.


HC1 Form

TheHC1 form can be used to claim for help with NHS treatments (e.g. prescriptions, dental treatment, sight tests etc). 


Counselling Service

The University offers a free counselling service to all students and staff at the University. 


Health and Well Being - Mental Health Support

There is a range of support available. Visit the University website for further information. 


Sexual Health Advice

There is a whole range of information on Sexual Health. You can speak to one of the Advisers in the Students’ Union Advice Centre in the strictest of confidence.  Alternatively visit your doctor or contact NHS Direct. There is also some specific support available in the Salford area

We have a list of local pharmacies which offer the morning after pill.
