What’s happening this Welcome?

Welcome week

Welcome 2014 promises to be the biggest and best time your Students’ Union has ever delivered. This year we are offering a wider and more varied programme for all students. This means that if you’re new, returning, international, mature, not living on campus, or are a parent, we’ve got an event for you!

What is Welcome?

Welcome is the Union’s introduction to your University life. We give you the opportunity to meet new friends, try something different, join new sports or activity teams and help you settle into life at Salford. There will also be chances to get to know the local area and have some typically British experiences. It’s a time to get to know your campus, other students and understand what Uni life is all about.

For returning students, Welcome is the celebration of a brand new academic year. It’s about reuniting with old friends, making new ones and trying something you didn’t get to last year! Welcome is the best time to see all the things that your Union has to offer, including new sports or activities. You might like to become a student rep or be part of our democratic process to develop employability skills!

Whoever you are, our three week programme is packed with heaps of experiences. From student’s own comedy in our new social space, family picnic, sports activities, cultural events, trips, our famous Trade Fair and huge nights out in the city, to the Great British Tea Party and special post graduate mixers, we want you to have a great time and meet lots of new people.

Oh! Did we mention there’s a hypnotist Dog?!

It’s also your chance to get to know us too. We’ll be popping up all over campus with information about what we do and how to become a part of the Students’ Union.

So what’s on this year?

The great reveal is Thursday 14 August, so check in with us on Twitter and Facebook to be one of the first in the know! We guarantee this is the largest Welcome programme we’ve ever made and we’re really excited to share it with you.

Our partners, the Welcome company will be selling club night wristbands up to Sunday 14 September. You can buy online and collect from them on the Peel Park campus by our Horlock court shop.

Is this just for ‘Freshers’ and people living in halls?

Not at all! That’s why we don’t call our programme ‘Freshers’. We encourage every student to take part in something. We’ve planned our programme for those students who have families, or who have to commute in mind. There’s social and sports events running through the day, so it’s not just about drinking and clubbing (though, we’ve got some of that too!)

This is your chance to meet other students like you, make friends and be part of Team Salford.
