Students' Union Election Results 2014

Thursday 20-03-2014 - 16:29

After a tense evening in Bar Yours, the winners of the 2014 Students' Union Elections were announced on 14 March 2014.

Over 2700 Salford students voted in the election - an increase on last year's turnout and a new record for Salford. With 18 candidates standing for the position of President and four Vice Presidents, the elections were fiercely contested.

The elections were held alongside a referenda, the results of which were announced first. The referenda asked students whether or not the Students' Union should ban the sale of the ‘Sun newspaper’ as part of the ‘No More Page 3’ campaign. 140 students voted "yes" and 127 voted "no" – however the quota of 800 votes was not met, hence it did not pass.
There were performances by the Salford University Dance Society, Alcohol Republic, two of our Comedy students, the Iranian Art Club and also alumni Raechel Waters.

Finally, the results for 2014/15 were announced –
