This week, the University of Salford Students’ Union and University stakeholders are set to meet to discuss future advancements for sport at Salford.

We believe this is a critical move to ensure the long term advancement and investment in active and healthy student lifestyles. This workshop comes at a time when the government is also examining the low activity rate of the nation.

We have invited a wide range of stakeholders from many areas across the University, and together we will discuss 6 themes of the sports strategy. The idea of the workshop is that stakeholders can input on how they can support/ impact on the strategy.

We are excited to be hosting such an important workshop, and look forward to sharing the outcome of this engagement with students. Students will be an integral part of this process, so if you are interested in this, keep an eye out for how you can contribute.

What is the current state of sport at Salford?

  • 2014/15 membership was 917 students.
  • 2014/15 ‘Give Sport a Go’ membership was 234.
  • Participation is strong but could be improved, especially numbers of women participating.
  • Ranked 18th in North UK in the British University Championships (BUCS).
  • Union planning a series of annual campaigns to encourage uptake of activity in any form.
