This year, at this time we can report an increase of nearly 400 per cent in students registered as student reps. This is exciting for Salford as it means we have more reps across more areas of the University, ensuring student’s voices are heard in more ways than ever.

Student reps, along with our sabbatical officer system, are the best way we can ensure that we are working for you.

The Student Rep system is a key tool for improving satisfaction, engagement and retention, as it provides a responsive forum for students to liaise with each other, and with our employees, to ensure that their programme runs efficiently.  It also gives programme leaders the chance to stay informed about student opinions as the year progresses, and importantly, undertake in-year actions in response to feedback with their academic and professional services colleagues.

A total of 646 Student Representatives have now been recruited and registered – the largest number ever at this point in the year.

“Student representation is a vital part of our working relationship with our students.  Carried out effectively, it helps all areas of the institution to better understand where things are and aren’t working for our students,” Sam Grogan, Dean of Students said: “This is a great success and thanks from myself and the Students’ Union must go to everyone who helped us to get this number of students registered. At the same time last year we had only 162 representatives, so this is an increase of nearly 400 per cent. Congratulations to all.”

Against this positive improvement though, there are still a number of pockets where reps have not yet been registered. If you’d like to be involved, contact your programme leader for more information.

280 reps have booked on to each of the training sessions being run this week and we are so excited to have you on board!
