Our very first Student Senate held last week passed 16 new policies, including zero tolerance to sexual harassment.

Taking place on the 25 November, the Senate's policies commit the Union to taking action on a wide range of areas including: taking a zero tolerance approach to sexual harassment, supporting the UCU marking boycott and lobbying the University to introduce gender neutral toilets.

Fiza Ikram (President) said “I’m delighted to have so much student led policy passed at the first meeting of Senate.  This policy will now direct what work the Union does on key areas such as lobbying for improved timetables and better infrastructure on campus as well as directing the Union to take a zero tolerance approach to sexual harassment. In the coming weeks and months the Sabbatical Officers will be working to deliver action plans to implement these policies so you will see changes coming very soon”.

Student Council is the ultimate political decision making body in the Union. It is made up of the five Sabbatical Officers as well as the seven chairs and five vice chairs of the Unions democratic forums.  Alex Davidson, the chair of the sports forum, was also elected as chair of Student Senate.
