University of Salford Students’ Union is pleased to announce that an investment in excess of £600,000 from the University has been secured to build a brand new student bar and social space for September 2014.

The current Union bar, Bar Yours in University House, will be remodelled and rebranded to provide Salford students with a modern, open and fresh social space to enhance their social experience.

We have collected student feedback on the current bar and planned designs and thank those who participated in our workshops, surveys and online polls. 

Mishal Saeed, President, says, “I am absolutely thrilled that we have been successful in securing the launch of our café and bar refurbishment project. This has been in response to the overwhelming demand from our students. Our plans go way beyond just the refurbishment, as we’re aiming to transform the social experience at Salford.

“We will have a full calendar of student-led events and social activities, delivered by our new Events Organiser.  We want students to love their life at Salford and this is a huge milestone for us in improving the Union’s social facilities, creating more social opportunities and realising our full potential.

“Our bar and cafe are more than just places for eating and drinking, they provide a pivotal meeting place for all students, to come and take their place in the Salford community. Our new project looks to enhance the sense of belonging for all students.

“As part of this project, our bar/café will also need a new identity and brand and we encourage all design and creative students to participate in the design competition.”

Construction begins this summer, with an expected completion date in time for all the fun, activity and excitement of Welcome Week 2014.

We look forward to sharing our progress reports with our Salford community to ensure that students and staff are part of this exciting new phase for the University of Salford Students’ Union.
