With no doubt University will be one of the greatest experiences of your life, so make the most of it by choosing the right accommodation for you.  Each site is as unique as you are, so choose yours based on what you want to get out of it, and enjoy!

Eddie Colman and John Lester (run by Campus Living Village -CLV) could be the right place for you. But why?

The location

You know you are in the right place when everything that you need is right on the corner. Less than 10 minutes’ walk away from the main campus and Salford Crescent Station, and 15 minutes on the bus to Media City, this accommodation is convenient and a perfect place for you to stay if you like to be close by. Here you live 10 minutes’ walk to Salford Shopping City Centre where a diversity of shops can be found.  Perfect if you are hungry at midnight or you just want to get a drink, your closest shop will be there waiting for you.

A visit to our new café/bar at University House is only a quick 5-10 minutes’ walk over the road and bridge, where you can relax and meet friends for coffee, snacks, pizza or even a cheeky drink.

(If you’re nearby University House, pop past our great USSU shop - it’s very competitive and well-priced for student pennies!)

The apartments

Eddie Colman/John Lester is a terrific place to meet people from all around the world, creating an exciting atmosphere to live in. You will be living with one, two or three other people sharing the same kitchen and bathroom. Make the most of it by spending time with your flatmates and getting to know new people. If there’s a party or just a movie night in the common room, try to join in. Getting to know people will help you find others with similar interests and help you make new friends.

The gym

Eddie Colman/John Lester offers a range of facilities for all students who live there including a gym. All you need to do to join is to take an induction to get FREE access to the gym. This gym is only for residents so it’s a great way to stay fit and take some time out away from studies.

The garden

When you want to free your mind from deadlines, exams and just chill, go outside in the yard and the beautiful garden. On beautiful sunny days, expect to find other students singing, playing guitars and using the BBQs. It’s a great place to gather and socialise. I also recommend using the garden space to get cosy with a book and just enjoy the sun.

The library

A little peaceful library is situated on the ground floor of John Lester and is accessible to all residents at Eddie Colman and John Lester. You can find a variety of great books and it’s also a nice space to study when you need a change of scenery.

V-Plus membership

Looking for some more fun?  Then I definitely recommend you join V Plus. Becoming a V Plus member allows you to make friends and save money at the same time.  Your V Plus membership gives you either free or discounted access to all events (activities, trips, etc.) organised by the CLV accommodation team. The welcome pack includes a hoody and is worth only £30 for the whole year.

This year it also includes membership to our ‘Give Sport a Go’ (GSAG) programme. This special programme gives you the chance to try as many different sports as you like, with no commitment. I’ve been trying badminton this summer and it is great fun so far!

Bring your receipt showing your V Plus membership payment to the Finance Office in University House, and we will give you your free GSAG card! Easy!

Staying safe

Access to the Eddie Colman/John Lester accommodation, gym and library is with an electronic swipe card. This swipe card also gives you and your flatmates access to your apartment. For your own room, you have a unique key. CCTV and security are provided at all halls so you can feel assured about your safety in the accommodation.

Support

CLV’s accommodation team will be at your service on a daily basis. However, what is really good is that there is always a night duty manager, as well as the University’s campus security available after hours if you need it. You can always contact one of the sabbatical officers during the day too if you’re having trouble with your halls. We’ll do our best to help.

Common spaces

Two common rooms are available (one per each accommodation site). There are big TV screens, bean bags and a pool table for you to use to have fun or relax in your free time. Or perhaps you’d like to cook for your friends? Maybe put on an event yourselves? Talk the CLV staff about using these spaces. They have kitchens for you to use, but don’t forget to wash the dishes!

Marina studied Journalism at Salford, graduated
in 2014 and in the same year went on to start
her sabbatical year as Vice President for
the Business and Law college.
