18 Reasons to vote in SU elections

  • You’re frustrated by university services – vote. Your Sabbatical Officers can influence and drive the university’s strategy and have a seat on almost every senior University decision making body.
  • You have a friend running and think they’ll be great – vote. The difference between President and Vice President can come down to a single vote so you do make a massive difference. Every vote counts.
  • You think the students’ union is a waste of time and does nothing for you. You can vote for the candidates who will bring the change you want to see.
  • You're a final year student - vote. You know what we've done and what we need to do. 
  • You want a different type of Sabbatical Officer, then vote! The sabbatical officers work for you, so challenge them in office and challenge candidates to be the best representatives they can be to get your vote.
  • You don’t feel represented. Sabbatical officers are your voice to the university and they need to represent you and your values, but can only do it if they hear from you.
  • You care about the value of your degree. The Union needs leaders who can drive quality in teaching, working with the university on best practice.
  • You believe budgets at the university can be spent in a different way.
  • You play sports and want more say in how teams and groups are funded.
  • You are a student representative and want more of a say in your student’s academic experience.
  • You like your course but think there should be more social life on campus.
  • You hate your course and think there should be more social life on campus.
  • A strong sabbitical officer team can make a difference on issues bigger than campus life - care about tax didgers, fracking or animal welfare? Vote!
  • You want more opportunities to participate in the arts – vote for a candidate who will commit to the arts and performance opportunities.
  • You want more opportunities for students in health related subjects.
  • You care about the reputation of your university and what your potential employers know about it? The Union needs leaders who can showcase talent and provide positive impacts to students and the community.Strong sabbatical officer teams make huge impacts to universities and student lives and this can be seen all over the world.
  • Your teachers said there's no point. It's the Union's job to challenge teaching and university standards. That's a lot of point.
  • If you don’t vote, you can’t complain.
